Valley Bridge Rehabilitation

The 0.75 mile long Valley Bridge (B-40-285) is located immediately south of Milwaukee’s downtown Marquette Interchange and was initially constructed in 1968. Extensive concrete surface repairs to piers and abutments; steel girder paint removal and replacement with debris containment, along with downspout repair are needed to safely extend its serviceable life. 

Toki worked with local Walker’s Point neighborhood community leaders and educators, WisDOT and the contractor to minimize impacts to the several parking lots located under the bridge; revise traffic control to avoid disruption to commuters and provide enhanced worker safety and to maintain railroad operations with CP Rail

URT Bridge Rehabilitation

The ~1,500 foot long URT Bridge (B-40-115) is located 4 miles north of downtown Milwaukee on a six lane urban freeway section of I-43. The bridge requires extensive concrete surface repair of the piers, columns and bearing seats, slope paving repair at abutments and cleaning and painting of steel girders.

Toki’s Project Leader and inspectors worked with the Department to manage the approximately 150% overrun of concrete surface repair, resultant changes to the project schedule and to coordinate revised access and environmental issues during construction.  Repairs were also needed to maintain support and integrity of the bearing pads supporting the bridge girders

USH 151 Beaver Dam Bypass

Toki assisted with construction management services for this 6 mile, $22M upgrade and freeway conversion and updates of USH 151 around Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. This complex project is constructed in six stages over three years and has fourteen temporary crossovers. The County D interchange will be reconstructed with a safer reconfiguration.   Bridges over County W, Prospect Avenue and Wisconsin 33 will be replaced, and the Union Pacific structure will be rehabilitated. The project has extensive grading, construction of concrete and asphaltic pavement, new beam guard and cable guard installations

Toki has assisted Short Elliot Hendrickson and the WisDOT NE Region’s construction review efforts since 2005.  We have overseen over 200 projects with construction costs ranging from $ 250k to $5M. Typical projects include bridges, reconstruction of urban and rural roadways, construction of multi-modal facilities and projects constructed by local governments under Local Force Accounts (LFA).

Toki’s Engineers and Inspectors are providing construction management services in partnership with CH2M Hill for deck repair along this 2.5 mile Milwaukee Lakefront landmark with an estimated construction cost of $7.4M. This rehabilitation consists of concrete patching of the bridge deck and surface repair on the piers


TOKI_Logo Kinnickinnic River Parkway Bridge Replacement

Toki is providing construction management services for this single span bridge replacement, associated roadway approach work and multi-use trail project located on the City of Milwaukee’s south side and adjacent to St. Luke’s Hospital. Construction requires complete closure of the roadway and path with a detour planned on the adjacent street system.

As part of the Milwaukee Transportation Team, Toki provided Construction Management (CM) and Construction Inspection and Layout Services for the Marquette Interchange Core, the five Traffic Mitigation and the South Leg Construction Projects. Overall construction spanned seven years with an overall cost of $450M. Fifty-eight (58) bridges totaling 41,000 feet in length were required.

On the Marquette Interchange Core, Toki provided CM services for I-43 Northbound and System Ramps. At the Connector Ramps, south of St. Paul Avenue, Toki was responsible for inspection and layout of 12 piers. Our staff served as a mentor to several consultants on the WisDOT Finals process

Milwaukee County retained Toki to oversee the milling and resurfacing of this $3.4M, 2.3 mile urban concrete roadway. All work is accomplished while maintaining one lane of traffic in each direction. New ADA compliant curb ramps and median opening provide extra safety for both pedestrians and motorists. Twenty-seven concrete bus pads for Milwaukee County Transit System Route 51 (Oklahoma Avenue) were constructed. During construction the 0.2 mile section at the I-894 intersection was added to the contract. Toki developed design solutions and coordinated with WisDOT for short term ramp closures.
